Ontology

In MyNODC, ontology was created according to the lists of terminology used and practised in oceanography. Each terminology was matched and organized into synonym, abbreviation, symbol, scientific name and lingual to provide the semantic meaning of each terminology. The schema of ontology database can be obtained in the download section below. Besides becoming a list of terminology for standardization, the ontology is attached in searching tool called “semantic searching” in the browser to allow accurate searching. Using semantic search, the result that returned not only restricted to data that related to given keyword(s), but also other links that related to keyword(s) hierarchically (semantically).
