Malaysia is very  committed to ensuring  that our  marine ecosystem  remains healthy so that this rich biodiversity can be enjoyed in perpetuity and sustainably  utilized for wealth creation in line with our objective to be a fully developed nation by 2020...

In line with Malaysia’s commitment and full support to the Coral Triangle Initiative in East Coast of Sabah,  Ministry of  Science,  Technology and  Innovation (MOSTI) is      initiating more innovative management   approaches in order to overcome problems such as climate change and overexploitation   of  marine resources……… 

Our National Plan of Action embodies 12 guiding principles of which nine were in the Regional Plan of Action. These guiding principles represent Malaysian commitments in various treaties, policies and declaration commitments in  international forums. These guiding  principles are embraced in the 134 action plans spread out across the five goals,  similar to the Regional Plan of Action goals.”

COMMITMENT OF NOD AS THE NATIONAL FOCAL POINT FOR CTI PROGRAMME

  1. Focal Point and Secretariat for National CTI Programme.
  2. Committee member of National Coordinating Committee for CTI on  Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security.
  3. Coordinate the preparation of a National Plan of Action for implementation of the CTI Regional Plan of   Action (RPOA) .
  4. Participate in marine related international cooperation to ensure that CTI meets international objectives
  5. Establish on-going efforts related to CTI such as:
  • Prime Scientific Sailing Expedition (PSSE’09)
  • Sulu Sulawesi Eco-Region (SSME) programs , and
  • Governs community based management in Kudat and Kota Marudu
