Areas in Malaysia included under CTI are parts of Kudat to Semporna (east coast Sabah). Gazette areas under SSME (Sulu Sulawesi Marine Eco-region) program initiated by WWF. Areas (producing 75% of Sabah’s Marine Fisheries) designated under SSME in Malaysia are:-

 

  1. SSME 1:Marudu Bay (Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas)
  2. SSME 2:(Sandakan,Kinabatangan,Beluran)
  3. SSME 3: (Tawau,Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak)
  4. The Malaysian SSME area covers an area of 48,393 km2
  5. The coastal zone of the SSME making up 89% of the state total (29,074 km2)
  6. The coastal waters in the SSME area cover an area of 28,966km2 or 53% of the state total (51,360 km2)
